A Weight-y Matter
Although I now know high-impact cardio is a no-no for me, I can honestly say I don’t much care. Having never been a huge fan of any cardio to begin with, I won’t miss it much, if at all. I know, I know, we need cardio to strengthen our hearts and it is a terrific fatburner, but I much prefer anaerobic workouts.
Strength training…now you’re talking! I love strength training and would be absolutely miserable if I had to alter my training in any way. Luckily so far, I don’t. So, I am back to strength training for one hour, Monday, Wednesday and Friday. I train at home, since I can be uber-lazy, and would never be so regimented as to drive to the gym everyday. Besides, I really like working out in the comfort of my own home, on my schedule.
Unlike yoga and karate, I have found no real difference in my performance with strength training. Excluding push-ups, that is. I used to be able to do full (boy) push-ups, but since my feet tingle so badly (especially the toe area) I find them almost impossible to do now. So, I do bent (girl) push-ups and try to do twice as many.
Feeling closer to my old self these days, I am back to low-impact cardio (yuck) six days a week, yoga twice a week, and strength training three days. I am a happy camper once again. Exercise is the one constant that makes me feel so alive and strong. I love being able to exercise and look at it as privilege - never as a chore!
I too see exercise as a sort of reward, a yay! my body’s working today so I better use it kind of feeling rather than a sigh, I guess I have to exercise again today feeling.
