Snap, Crackle, Pop
I have found my visits to the chiropractor to be very helpful; both with my previous back problem and now with CIS/MS. Many people dislike or question chiropractic care, but just like finding and choosing a new doctor, you need to proceed with caution. Make sure you choose a reputable chiropractor, don’t just flip through the Yellow Pages and call the very first one you see. A chiropractor that is highly recommended is ideal.
I hadn’t seen my chiropractor for some time, since my back was no longer an issue. He was surprised to see me, and even more so when I told him why I was there. I asked him if he had treated patients with MS and he said he had. He told me sometimes…sometimes…your vertebrae being out of alignment could cause “pinch points” on the spinal cord that could actually mimic certain MS symptoms. In my case, that would be numbness and tingling. Being the incurable optimist that I am, I immediately starting thinking along those lines and that would be the case with me.
He gave me an adjustment. I felt like a new person. He also told me to go home and put an ice pack on my neck, every day for half an hour, for the next week. I also bought a contoured neck pillow, since I end up all over the place when I sleep and the pillow would sort of force me to sleep on my back. I am one of those who sleeps on every side possible. Bad, bad, bad.
I am going to come in for an adjustment twice a week for a month and we will see how I feel and if it is making a difference, and most importantly, if I’m out of alignment or truly have CIS/MS.
